2026 Methods Summit

Valuing Innovation: Measuring What Matters

Moving Beyond Cost-Effectiveness to the Full Spectrum of Patient-Centered Value

March 25, 2026 - Washington, DC

The 2026 7th Annual Methods Summit will convene leaders in the value research, policy, and patient advocacy to examine how value assessment can better reflect the full spectrum of what matters to patients. Grounded in the Center’s principles of methodological rigor, transparency, equity, and patient-centeredness, the Summit will move beyond traditional cost-effectiveness approaches to explore more inclusive and relevant methods for defining and measuring value. Through focused sessions and collaborative discussion, participants will assess progress and gaps in incorporating patient-centered value elements; explore what is ready, emerging, and next in the field; generate insights to inform a forthcoming methods brief, and contribute to the national conversation on value-based decision-making.

Agenda

Wednesday, March 25, 2026

The Summit begins with a welcome, followed by a fireside chat with the keynote speaker. Discussion will center around the evolution of value definitions and the potential for new methods beyond traditional cost-effectiveness research.

This session focuses on “scientific spillover,” highlighting the ripple effects of research, innovation, and technological advancement that extend beyond individual treatments. Panelists will explore how breakthroughs such as cell and gene therapy and personalized medicine challenge existing value assessment methods and underscore the importance of capturing their wider societal benefits.

Mariah J. Scott, MS, MPH (Rutgers University, Researcher, Advocate, Epidemiologist)

Priscilla VanderVeer, MA (No Patient Left Behind, Executive Director)

This closing session will discuss whether these and other novel value elements are “ready for prime time” and use in value assessment.
