The IVI Health Equity Initiative poster presented at the 2023 AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting synthesizes findings from a multi-stage, multi-stakeholder effort to define concrete actions for embedding equity into health technology assessment (HTA). Drawing on a targeted review of more than 1,000 articles, over 30 hours of interviews and roundtables with patients, caregivers, advocates, researchers, payers, clinicians, and industry representatives, and insights from the 4th Annual Methods Summit, the poster introduces a Health Equity in HTA Framework organized around four domains: Power, People, and Processes; Data, Inputs, and Infrastructure; Methods; and Communications and Use. The work underscores a broad consensus that value in HTA cannot be meaningfully defined without equity and that fundamental changes are needed to center patient and caregiver perspectives. Key findings emphasize the responsibility of those in positions of power to lead and be accountable for equity-focused change, the importance of engaging patients and caregivers early and continuously, the need to advance equity even amid data gaps through mixed methods, and the role of transparency, accountability, and ongoing learning. Together, the framework and recommended actions offer a practical pathway toward more equitable, patient-centered HTA that better reflects the needs and experiences of diverse populations.
