2024 Methods Summit Summary

This summary report captures insights from the 5th Annual IVI Methods Summit, which focused on the future of patient-centered health technology assessment (HTA). The Summit emphasized that HTA must move beyond traditional clinical and economic metrics to authentically integrate patient lived experience, equity, and transparency throughout the assessment process. Key themes included engaging patients as true partners, addressing equity across HTA (including rare diseases, disability, and affordability), and exploring innovative methods such as real option value and AI to fill evidence gaps. Across panels, participants called for continuous collaboration, closing the feedback loop between patients and modelers, and adopting holistic, mixed-methods approaches to better reflect what patients value. The report concludes with a strong call to action: failing to prioritize patient-centered HTA carries real costs, and sustained commitment is needed to embed equity and patient partnership into healthcare decision-making.
