On May 22nd, James Baumgardner, who provides legislative policy expertise as a part of IVI’s Scientific Advisory Group, was an invited panelist for a forum at The University of Chicago’s Becker Friedman Institute.
On the panel, titled “The Economic Consequences of Health Care Reform,” Baumgardner applied his past experience as a 20-year veteran of the CBO to discuss how healthcare reform affects the federal budget. The panel discussion focused on the unintended consequences of the Affordable Care Act, comparisons with replacement bills, and the pressures that an aging population and associated increases in healthcare spending will place on the federal budget, resulting in an increasing interest in new policy solutions.
