These family spillover benefits, they argue, may be significant. For example, a parent of a blind child would likely be willing to pay far more than the expected economic cost of the child’s care to cure their blindness. Jena and Kamal-Bahl argue that such spillovers should be considered when assessing the overall value of a therapy or intervention.
