The Center Calls for Stronger Patient Partnership and Real Consideration of Novel Value Elements in HEMA’s Draft Methods Report

In its public comments on the Health Economics Methods Advisory (HEMA) group’s draft report, “Defining Appropriate Benefits for Economic Evaluation  of Health Care Technologies,” the Center for Innovation & Value Research urged HEMA to strengthen its framework for defining benefits in economic evaluation. The Center called for patients and caregivers to be engaged as co-creators in methods development, for equity to be treated as a foundational principle, and for “relevant” benefits to be extended beyond clinical outcomes. The Center also emphasized the need for transparency, integration of qualitative evidence, and pilot testing of novel value elements to ensure future HTA methods are equitable, evidence-based, and responsive to innovation.
