IVI recently published a paper in The Patient – Patient-Centered Outcomes Research describing the formative research undertaken by the project team to elicit qualitative and quantitative patient input in the disease state of major depressive disorder (MDD). Based on the PAVE patient-informed value element set, the project team first identified six key factors that matter the most to individuals with MDD through engaging with patients, patient advocates, and a multidisciplinary stakeholder advisory group. A discrete choice experiment instrument was then developed and pre-tested with individuals with MDD. Key findings from the study revealed tradeoffs among the mode of treatment, time to treatment effect, functional outcomes, and costs as individuals with MDD evaluate their potential treatment options. The pilot application demonstrated the potential and provided a feasible approach to incorporate patient experience in preference measures.
